The Budget Periods SmartForm page must be completed before a budget can be created.

Date Project Starts:  This is an estimate date for the beginning of the period of performance.

Duration:  A period may be defined from from 1-36 months.  Durations do not have to equal 12 months and can vary within a single proposal. The number of periods chosen here creates a separate column/year on the Budget Grid.  Budget periods do not need to coincide with UCAR’s fiscal year.

The dates entered on the Budget Periods page that represent the Period of Performance on a proposal DO NOT affect or drive the Fiscal Year rates that are applied to the budget in any way.  The user must still designate which FY rates to use as part of the budget SmartForm. The Budget Periods only affect salary calculations crossing fiscal years in the compensation schedule.  The number of months (duration) within a budget period drives various calculations within the salary grids such as calendar months, number of weeks, hours and ultimately the salary requested.

Period Name: The system allows users to identify budget periods as needed.

The Target Direct $: The amount entered here DOES NOT affect the budget in any way.  It provides a budget target for the user and is for convenience only.

Estimated Budget Amount: One of the following options must be selected if your Proposal Type selected was Standard

  • Over $100K
  • $100K or less

or

  • If your Proposal Type is unfunded, this field will default to zero and will be read-only.

This field does not effect the budget in any way. It drives PACUR and a simplified workflow for NCAR.

Note:  This will become a read-only field after the PACUR form has been initiated.  If you need to change your response to this question, the original PACUR form will need to be withdrawn.  If a PACUR form is withdrawn the Estimated Budget field will become editable again.

Note for a Complex Proposal scenario:

The “Budget Periods” page in a Complex Proposal DOES NOT include the “Estimated Budget Amount” question. This is moved to the Project level in a Complex scenario.
